The “new” HP TouchPad, previously known as Topaz has been introduce in San Francisco as a part of the new webOS 3.0 along with the Pre Veer and Pre 3.
The outside design looks more like the first generation of Apple’s iPad, somehow outdated, what’s interesting is the inside of the tablet. It has a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, fastest of any tablets on the market right now, built in gyroscope, accelerometer and a compass. A front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling, bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and an A-GPS for the 3G model.
The TouchPad comes with two choice of memory, 16 and 32GB.
One of the feature that distinguish this tablet to its competitor is its ability to “talk” to the Pre 3. All you have to do is to put the Pre 3 on the Touchstone (HP’s wireless charging dock). This will transfer calls and notifications from the Pre 3 to the TouchPad. Another nifty feature is to transfer wirelessly information from the TouchPad to the Pre 3. For exemple if you are surfing the net and you want to leave the tablet at your desk, but want to continue to read the web page, you touch the Pre 3 on the TouchPad…and voila, the page is loaded onto the Pre 3.
The price and release date are not announced yet, but it is expected for this summer.
